Day 22Closer to God — 365 Days

Roots to Grow

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters.

Jeremiah 17:7-8a

A tree planted by the waters isn't afraid of drought. Why? Because its roots reach down to where no dry season can reach.

That's the image God uses for the person who trusts in Him.

The droughts come. The hard years, the disappointments, the winds that turn everything upside down — they come. The question isn't whether the storm will arrive, but where you're planted when it does.

Trust in God isn't insurance against problems. It's the root that guarantees you won't dry up inside when the heat presses in from outside.

Are you planted, or are you in a pot — easy to move, easy to tip over? Diving into the Word, into prayer, into community, into worship — these aren't religious obligations. They're water for the roots.

Plant deep. Droughts don't defeat a tree with good roots.

Prayer

Lord, I want to be planted near Your waters. Help me deepen my roots in You every day — in the Word, in prayer, in trust. Amen.
