Day 212Closer to God — 365 Days

Shelter in the Storm

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1

Psalm 46 was written for moments when the earth shakes. Literally — it speaks of mountains falling into the sea, of roaring waters, of nations in turmoil. It's for the moments when everything seems to be collapsing at once.

And in those moments, the psalm's opening line is an anchor: God is our refuge. Not "He might be," not "He is sometimes," not "if you deserve it." He is. Constantly, firmly, He is.

Refuge is a place you run to when danger appears. A fortress is a place danger cannot tear down. A very present help is help that arrives on time — not too late, not when it no longer matters.

When the storm is too much, you don't have to stand in the middle of it pretending you're fine. You can run to the refuge. It is always open. Always firm. Always present.

Prayer

God, today I run to You as my refuge. The storm is great. But You are greater. Amen.
