Day 201Closer to God — 365 Days

When the Loss Is Too Great

The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

Lamentations 3:24

The book of Lamentations was written in the middle of a national tragedy. Everything had been destroyed — the city, the temple, the dreams of an entire people. And yet, within this book of grief, this verse appears.

"The Lord is my portion." When everything I had was taken away, God still remains. And He is enough to be the portion of a soul that has lost everything else.

Maybe you're in a season of great loss. Loss of health, of a relationship, of a job, of someone you loved. And the question that lingers is: what's left for me now?

God is left. And He is not the consolation prize — He is the greatest wealth that exists. When you have Him, you have the source of everything. Not easy to feel in the middle of pain, but true all the same.

Prayer

God, when it feels like I've lost too much, let me know that I have You. And let that be enough to sustain me. Amen.
