Day 2Closer to God — 365 Days

The New Thing That's Being Born

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

Isaiah 43:18-19

There's a lovely trap we humans tend to fall into: staring too long at what's behind us. We compare now with before, what we've gained with what we've lost, who we are today with who we used to be.

And God, with all the gentleness in the world, says: don't look back there. Not because the past doesn't matter, but because He's doing something new — and if you keep your eyes on the rearview mirror, you'll miss the view of what's being born right in front of you.

"Shall ye not know it?" What a beautiful question. Sometimes the new thing comes in a way so different from what we expected that we can't even recognize it as a blessing. It comes as a narrow door, a season of waiting, an unexpected turn.

Today, ask God for eyes to recognize the new thing He's doing in you and around you. It may be smaller than you imagined. It may be better than you dreamed.

Prayer

Father, sharpen my eyes to see what You are doing now. Free me from longing for what's behind me and fill me with expectation for the new thing Your hands are building. Amen.
