Day 179Closer to God — 365 Days

Gratitude That Opens the Heavens

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

In everything — not just in good things, not just when it's easy, not just when God answered the way you expected. In everything.

This seems impossible. How do you give thanks in a hard situation? How do you have gratitude in the middle of pain, loss, waiting?

The answer isn't in your feelings — it's in faith. You don't need to pretend everything is fine. You can give thanks even while acknowledging that the situation is hard. "Father, I don't understand what's happening, but I'm thankful because I know You're in control. I'm thankful because I know Your plan is good. I'm thankful because I know this will pass."

That's the gratitude of faith — and it has immense power over the heart. When you give thanks in the middle of the storm, you are telling God — and yourself — that the storm doesn't have the last word. God does.

Start today with an act of gratitude you'll need to offer in faith, not in feeling. And see what happens to your heart.

Prayer

God, even on hard days, I choose gratitude. Thank You for being good always — even when I can't quite see it. Amen.
