Day 177 — Closer to God — 365 Days
The Fast That God Chose
“Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?”
Isaiah 58:6
The fast God values isn't just going without food. It's a posture of total surrender — releasing what holds you, freeing what is bound, laying your heart before Him with no defenses.
When prayer and fasting go together, something intensifies. Not because God needs to be persuaded, but because you're saying with your body what your heart is saying with words: "God, this is urgent. I need You with everything I have."
Fasting reduces the noise. When you set aside food, something in your spirit becomes sharper. There's less distraction, less easy comfort, more genuine dependence. And in that place, God often speaks with greater clarity.
This isn't a rule — it's a spiritual tool. It's not meant to impress anyone, not meant to earn anything. It's an intimate act between you and the Father, meant to deepen what already exists.
If you've never experienced fasting combined with prayer, consider taking a step in that direction. Start small. And see what God does.
Prayer
Lord, let me seek You with my whole being — body, soul, and spirit. Teach me to use every tool You have given us to draw near to You. Amen.
