Day 176Closer to God — 365 Days

A Mother's Priesthood

Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you.

1 Samuel 12:23

Samuel said that ceasing to pray for the people would be sin. That's a powerful perspective on intercessory prayer: it isn't optional. It's a responsibility.

Do you have people you pray for? Children, a husband, parents, friends, the community around you? Every time you bend your knees and lay someone's name before God, you are exercising a priesthood.

This is one of the quietest and most powerful roles a person can have. No stage to stand on. No credit to receive. But in the hardest hours of the lives of the people you love, the prayers you prayed in secret are there — like an invisible shield, like intercession that God honors.

Don't underestimate the impact of your prayers for others. Sometimes the greatest gift you give someone isn't what you do for them with your hands, but what you do for them on your knees.

Prayer

Father, give me the heart of an intercessor. May I never forget to pray for those I love — and may Your hand cover them because of those prayers. Amen.
