A Calling Within Your Own Home

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Proverbs 22:6

You have been searching for your purpose far away, in another career, in another place, and you may be forgetting that one of the greatest works I have entrusted to you is already inside your own home. Being a father, being a mother, being a present child, being the one who instructs and loves up close — that is also a calling, and one of the most important there is.

I know that raising children, caring for aging parents, sustaining a home, doesn't seem as glamorous as a prominent position. But I measure purpose by eternal impact, not by status. And few things shape eternity as much as a child raised with love and truth, or an elderly person cared for with dignity in their final years.

Do not despise the calling that is already inside your home. It may well be the most important one I have ever given you.
