Today's bread, not the year's stock

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

Matthew 6:11

I saw you trying to solve the whole year in a single morning. Calculating December's bill in January, worrying over a problem that may never even arrive. Child, I don't give you the year's bread. I give you today's bread. And tomorrow, when tomorrow comes, tomorrow's bread will be there too.

This isn't carelessness on my part, it's care. Because if I gave you everything at once, you'd learn to trust the stockpile, not me. But when you have to come back to me every day to ask for today's bread, our relationship stays alive, close, daily.

So today, don't pray asking for the solution to everything. Pray asking for enough for today: strength for today, patience for today, wisdom for that meeting, that child, that bill due right now. I am faithful day by day, one at a time, with you.
