Day 56Healing for the Heart

The Peace That Surpasses Understanding

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7

There's a peace that makes sense — the peace of when problems get solved, the bills add up, the outcome turns out fine. And there's another peace, far more mysterious: the one that comes even when nothing has been resolved. That is the peace of God, which "passeth all understanding," precisely because you can't explain how you're at peace in the middle of what you're going through. Maybe you're starting to feel it now: a strange calm settling over your heart even without all the answers. Don't be suspicious of it — that's exactly what it is. God didn't wait for your life to become perfect to give you peace; He offers a peace that guards the heart in the middle of imperfection. The word "shall keep" carries the flavor of a sentry: God's peace stands guard at the door of your heart, protecting it from despair. Today, receive this peace that you cannot manufacture or explain. It is a gift from Him, and it is enough.

Prayer

Lord, give me Your peace that doesn't depend on circumstances and that I can't even explain. Guard my heart and my mind. I rest in this peace that comes from You. Amen.
