Day 11Marriage Devotional

Purpose for Two

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Jeremiah 29:11

God has plans. And those plans include your marriage — not just you on your own, but what God wants to do through the two of you together. There is a purpose in your meeting that goes beyond affection, beyond children, beyond the address you share.

Asking, "God, what do You want to do with our marriage?" is one of the most powerful prayers a couple can pray. He may want to use you to serve, to welcome others in, to be an example, to intercede. Sometimes the purpose starts small — a neighbor helped, the right word at the right time. But it starts. When a marriage finds a purpose bigger than itself, it gains new life. You stop looking only at the flaws and start seeing what's being built. What a beautiful marriage it is when two people walk together toward something greater.

Prayer

God, show me the purpose You have for our marriage. May we not live only for ourselves, but may our love be fruit that nourishes others. Amen.
