Day 9 — A Man After God's Own Heart
Work as unto the Lord
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”
Colossians 3.23
Paul gives a simple instruction that completely changes the motive behind your work: whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not to men. Think about your routine — the boring spreadsheet, the difficult client, the repetitive task, the manual labor nobody thanks you for. It's easy to work well when someone's watching and ready to praise you. The challenge is working well when no one notices, when the boss doesn't recognize it, when the effort feels invisible. But if your work is offered to the Lord, not to people, human recognition stops being the fuel. You keep doing it well because you're giving an account to God, not chasing applause. That changes everything: work stops being about proving your worth or winning approval, and becomes worship in the shape of effort. Men often tie their own value to job performance — when it goes well, they feel great; when it goes badly, they feel like failures. But your worth isn't in the outcome of the work; it's in who you're serving through it. Today, before starting your task, offer it to God. Work like someone serving the Lord, not like someone trying to impress anyone.
Prayer
Lord, let all the work of my hands today be offered to You. Take away my need for human approval and teach me to serve with a whole heart, as though serving You directly. Amen.
