Day 27 — A Man After God's Own Heart
Be Still
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalms 46.10
In the middle of a psalm describing nations in turmoil, mountains shaking, wars breaking out, God gives a surprising order: be still, and know that I am God. It isn't a call to passivity in the face of chaos — it's a call to stop trying to control everything with your own strength and remember who's actually in control. Men tend to respond to crisis with immediate action, trying to fix, solve, dominate the situation through sheer effort. Sometimes that's necessary. But there are moments when the right response isn't more effort — it's stillness before God, acknowledging that He is God and you are not. That takes humility: admitting there are things outside your control, situations you won't solve through hard work and determination alone. Maybe right now you're trying to hold up, alone, something far too big — a family health crisis, a financial mess, a broken relationship. Before another attempt to control it all, stop. Be still before God. Not because nothing needs to be done, but because the first thing to do is remember who He is. Today, take a few minutes of real silence before God. Let Him be God, and let yourself simply be the one who trusts Him.
Prayer
Lord, help me quiet my heart before You. Take away the illusion that I need to control everything alone. Remind me today that You are God, and I can trust You. Amen.
