Day 86Young Woman of Faith

Salt of the Earth

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Matthew 5:13

Salt doesn't shout. Salt doesn't show off. But you feel the difference when it's there — and when it isn't.

You are the salt of the earth. That means your presence has an effect. You preserve what is good. You bring out the flavor of the life around you. You make a difference just by being there, when you're truly being who God made you to be.

The danger Jesus mentions is salt without flavor. The Christian woman who is present but doesn't impact. Who is in the right places but doesn't carry the essence she should carry.

But that's not who you need to be. You have the Holy Spirit in you — the most transforming essence there is.

Salt doesn't ask itself whether it's making a difference. It's just salt, wherever it is, and it does what it's meant to do.

Be truly you. Be light. Be salt. Not to be seen — to transform.

Prayer

Lord, may I never lose my flavor. May my presence, wherever I am, make a difference for good. May I be genuine salt in the world around me. Amen.
