Day 78 — Goodnight, Lord
Rest for the Weary Soul
“Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.”
Psalm 116:7
Sometimes the soul needs to hear an invitation to come back to rest. The psalmist speaks to himself: "Return unto thy rest, O my soul." It's like saying, "You can relax now; you've run enough for today." And the reason is beautiful: because the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. Look back over today and recognize it — in the midst of everything, there was God's goodness. He was good to you in so many ways you may not even have noticed. That's why your soul can return to rest with confidence: you are in the hands of the One who treats you well. Today, before you sleep, repeat that invitation to yourself. Call your soul back to rest. There's nothing left to chase after tonight. The Lord was good to you today, and He will be good tomorrow. Rest in His proven goodness and sleep in peace.
Prayer
Lord, my soul returns to rest, because You have dealt bountifully with me. Thank You for Your goodness this day. Quiet whatever in me is still running, and give me rest. Amen.
