When Someone Hurt You

Someone you trusted let you down deeply. Maybe it was a major betrayal, with a name and a date etched into your memory; maybe it was a quiet disappointment that built up little by little, drop by drop, until it overflowed. You've learned to distrust even me, thinking that sooner or later I too will let you go without.

But I am not like people who fail, however good their intentions may be. I am the shepherd who does not abandon the flock in the middle of the dark field. Where others let go of your hand, mine stays firm, holding on with the same strength as always. Starting over after a disappointment isn't about learning never to trust anyone again for the rest of your life — it's about learning to place your deepest trust in me first, before anyone else.

You can go on loving people, with eyes open and more mature, without losing the tenderness that is naturally yours. And you can rest knowing that even if everyone around you fails, nothing will ever make me let go of your hand.
