Hope in Senseless Pain

“I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.”

Job 42:2

I know you've been asking the same question Job asked so long ago, even without saying it out loud to anyone: why is this happening to me, if I didn't do anything to deserve it? I don't have an answer that fits neatly into a single comforting sentence, and I won't give you false answers just to calm you down quickly and change the subject.

Job didn't receive a detailed explanation for the deep suffering he lived through either. What he received, in the end, was an encounter with me — so real and so intense that he said: now my eyes finally see you. Pain that seems to make no sense doesn't mean my care for you is absent, even if it feels that way.

I don't promise to explain everything right now, today, all at once. I promise to be present in every unanswered question you carry, sustaining you until, in my own time, something finally makes sense — or until you learn to trust me even without fully understanding the whole picture.
