The Scar That Still Hurts

“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.”

Psalm 147:3

I saw you yesterday, touching that memory again without meaning to, feeling the pain return as if it had happened just yesterday. A scar hurts too, son, daughter, even after it has closed. No one told you that properly. They thought a scar was something settled, a chapter fully turned, so you feel strange when it still stings.

I don't treat a wound like a statistic of time passed. Just because years have gone by doesn't mean everything should be fine, with no trace left. I bind up every wound in My own time, with the care of someone who bandages slowly, without pressing too hard, without hurting again what has already suffered enough.

Let Me look closely at that scar today, with real attention. Not to reopen it just for the sake of it, without purpose, but to finally clean out what stayed beneath the skin, what was never properly treated at the right time. I have patience for this whole process. You can learn to have it too.
