A Clay Jar Carrying Light

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”

2 Corinthians 4:7

I know you look at your cracks — the flaws, the limits, the times you broke on the inside and no one noticed from the outside — and think that disqualifies you from carrying something important, from being used for something bigger than your own pain. You compare yourself to those who seem more whole, more put together, and you feel small next to that image.

But I chose clay jars on purpose, fragile, cracked, ordinary, with no shine of their own, to carry my most valuable treasure. I didn't choose flawless, gleaming golden vessels, because then it would look like your own merit, your own achievement, your own strength. I chose clay precisely so it would be clear, beyond any doubt, that the power is mine, not yours.

Your cracks don't stop you from carrying light to other people — they are, very often, exactly where that light breaks through and reaches those who need it most. Don't be ashamed of the vessel you are. It was chosen this way, cracks and all, on purpose, for this very mission.
